This wedding is in my top 5 all time favorite weddings. And I hate to say that because it feels like I’m saying which one of my kids is my favorite but it’s the truth.
Years ago I photographed Mary’s sister Megans Wedding. They are from the same big family and I just love their family! They remind me so much of much of my extended family. So when Mary contacted me about her wedding to say I was excited is the understatement of the year! The fall before we took their engagements and I got to know Mary and Jake. I knew I was going to love working them as soon as we met.
They wedding was at Mt. Naomi Farms in Hyde Park Utah. It was a super hot day in June! We started in the beautiful brides room getting ready with her girls.
They had their ceremony outside on the grass. You have to see Mary’s little nephews as her ring bearers? They had suitcases that said “ring security” on them. And had dark sunglasses and black suits. But the big moment was when Jake say Mary for the first time. It was a big deal because we were going to do a whole formal session before their wedding and they decided not to because he wanted the first time he saw her in her dress when she walked down the isle. It was worth it. Can you see the little tear running down his face?
The ceremony was so beautiful. Even the officiant was a close friend of Jakes so it was really fun and personal. They did something so smart as part of their wedding!
Wedding Tip- Do what Jake and Mary did! They knew a lot of family would love a photo of the ceremony. So right after they were both up front they allowed the family to take pictures for a minute then asked them to put their phones away. So everyone had a photo if they wanted one but then their guests didn’t have phones in their hands the whole time. Especially when they had a videographer and me and my second shooter Nicole there.
Then my favorite part was when they read their vows. Oh I love vows! Every ceremony needs personal vows I think. And I understand a lot of couples don’t want to have to do a speech during their ceremony but it is just so beautiful when they do!
The photo above took my breath away . It’s my all time favorite.
My beautiful brides! Mary and her sister (and my past bride) Megan.
Jake had very few requests at their wedding. But one wish he had was for a beautiful sunset and did cache valley deliver or what! We HAD to do a few sunset photos!
Their first dances were so adorable. Especially Mary with her dad! I hope my boys let me dance with them at their weddings. It’s my favorite. Then they cut their cake and did a little bit of dancing with their guests.
Their dogs mean everything to them so they had Mary’s niece go and get them for a photo.
The most epic moment of the night! And I share this photo just because Mary loved it and shared it as well. She wanted to dance with her bridesmaids so they played a little cotton eyed Joe. But Mary didn’t realize how big her dress was I guess and stepped right onto her dress. She went straight down! Honestly it happened so fast I didn’t even realize what happened until she was down!
Mary and Jake had a bubble exit. It was so beautiful. What an amazing wedding. I am seriously so lucky to have been apart of it!
