Logan Utah Temple Elopement- Covid 19- Last winter I got a message from the sweetest mother of the bride! Her daughter had met a awesome guy at BYU and they wanted to get married in the Logan Temple of May 2nd. They were from Ohio but Logan is where the brides Grandma lives and she has always loved this temple. I was so excited! I could tell they were my ideal clients. Sweet as can be.
Then March happened.
I’m pretty sure anyone over the age of 10 will always remember March of 2020. Quickly this couple could tell things were starting to close and their dreams of a May 2nd Temple wedding were flying out the window. I got a message that they decided to hurry and married just a few days later in case the temples started to close. Her parents were already flying in town so instead of chancing it they were going to go for it! A temple elopement! Because the rest of the world pretty much stopped my schedule was wide open. I was more then happy to help them!
*I want to note here that this was before many of the stay at home orders were put into place. We kept a distance from each other and they had very low numbers with them. In case I get any hate for photographing this wedding. =) *
The temple was were allowing weddings but you had to keep the number of your group to 8 people. So pretty much just your parents and maybe a set of Grandparents. I actually was not allowed to be outside the temple when they came out. I called to make sure just in case. We were thinking of having me be there with my iPhone to snap a few photos but they decided to have me just meet them at the Old Rock Church. They already had it booked and were allowed to move the date up. It was where they were going to hold their reception originally.
Lysi (the bride) had ordered a wedding dress that hadn’t gotten here yet so she had to rent a dress. It fit her perfect and was beautiful! They also hurried and try to get some flowers put together and called Lees Marketplace for flowers. (My favorite place). It just so happened that they had a little extra flowers from a wedding they just finished with Lysi’s EXACT colors. It was perfect.
I got some getting ready shots in the bridal room at the Old Rock Church then we kind of tricked Garrett into a first look. He wasn’t really big on it but she really wanted it. We just asked him to come into the room and there she was! He was worried about not having a great enough reaction for photos and he ended up naturally having the BEST reaction. They always do!
We headed up to the Logan temple hoping to get a few photos even if it was from the outside of the fence. But when we pulled up all the gates were open and we saw people walking around. We decided to go for it because my bride was really hoping for some temple shots. I told them if they ask us to leave we will but we will get as many as we could just in case. We ended up doing a ton of formals around the temple which made me so happy! I really wanted to do that for this couple!
If it wasn’t more meant to be that I was their photographer when I asked Garrett where he was from he said Caldwell, Idaho. I was like no way I’m from Nampa! Those cities are touching they are so close. Then I found out his uncle is my brothers friend. Seriously what a small world. Her mom from Ohio found me online and I had a connection to his uncle. I love it.
It was supposed to rain on her wedding. I was praying so hard for her! I mean everything has been turned upside down could we just have a little bit of time without rain. Not only did it not rain but the sky was so blue. It was beautiful.
Because they couldn’t do a first dance at their reception we did a little one at the old rock church.
A couple of quick family pictures outside.
So I have never been in this room at the old rock church. It’s AMAZING. Those light blue walls were amazing. I’m glad I know about it! Before this I’ve only been in the ball room.
Proof that Garrett was comfortable with me haha!
Me- keeping my distance- to this sweet couple. I just love them. I’m so blessed to have been able to be their photographer.
