Last Friday I woke up to the devastating news that the sweet mom, Jennifer, passed away unexpectedly. My heart dropped. My first thought was her sweet girls. Jennifer was such a sweet person. I loved how close she was with her girls!

Last fall Jennifer contacted me about taking some pictures of her and her girls. We took all sorts of pictures. The girls alone, together, with their mom and with their mom separately. It was such a fun session! Her girls were so adorable. Her youngest had the sweetest little smile that completely melted my heart. Jennifer wrote on her Facebook page how much she loved that I was able to capture her little girls personality so well. It’s the highest compliment ever because that is always my goal! One thing was for sure- that those girls loved their mother and she was equally smitten with them. No question.

I’ve done a bunch of photos for families where their pictures would be their last. I love to help families with terminal cancer have one last family photo. But sessions like these hit my hard as well. I had no idea at the time they would be looking their mother soon. To my knowledge these were her last professional photos taken. I started asking myself what I would have done differently had I known. For one I would have taken more photos! Even though they had over a 100. But other then that I feel like I captured what I wanted. The sweet bond these three had with each other. I’m especially grateful I got photos of each of the girls alone with her.

I always go into a session with the thought in mind that they will treasure these photos for a lifetime so I better make it count. Most of the time it ends up being one of many family sessions they will have over the years but every so often something like this happens.

What if she didn’t get them taken? What if her girls didn’t have these pictures?

So here is my plea to everyone- get your family pictures taken. Do it. Do it this year. There are so many family photographers with all different price ranges and styles. Find someone that fits for your family and get them taken. It doesn’t matter if you have some weight to loose or you want your hair to grow out more. It doesn’t matter if your kids are young and hard for pictures- photographer are pros! We can handle it. You just never know what time will bring. Your children need to see you in pictures with them. They need to have photographs around your home with you in them. They love you! Get them taken. And when you do loose your weight or save up for that outfit you what or whatever lame excuse you have putting off pictures get them taken again. Don’t wait. Please.

There is a go fund me for the girls set up. Click the link here to help. I’m so sorry to Jennifer’s family. She was such a wonderful person. What a huge loss for all of us.
