Out of my 5 children only one of my deliveries has been without complications. And it was my last one go figure. My first son I had bad preeclampsia and it was scary. I had to deliver him early, I had no idea what was going on and I was on some nasty medicine that made me sick, hot, then cold and I couldn’t see straight. It was awful. The only saving grace for me through that entire delivery was my amazing nurse Jolene. She took amazing care of me and helped me relax as much as possible. Which was a blessing because my blood pressure was in stroke range.
My husband grew up around her family and was good friends with her brother. She also lived down the street from my aunt growing up so I knew her a little too. Out of every nurse I’ve had, Jolene is hands down the very best of the best. Let’s be honest- labor and delivery nurses pretty much deliver the baby and the Dr. just catches. I not only had Jolene help me with my oldest son but two others as well. I have no idea how I got that lucky. She ended up helping me with my two scariest deliveries and she was such a calming influence to my husband and I. I just can’t say how much I appreciate and love her.
When Jolene messaged me about taking her family pictures she was like “I’m not sure you remember me but I helped deliver some of your babies.” I was like OF COURSE I remember you! I was so excited to meet her sweet little family. Her kids even attend my kids school and I didn’t know it. Her two year old wasn’t too excited about leaving mom’s lap for the majority of their photos. I really wanted to get a few of just him but he didn’t want anything to do with that. I was talking to Jolene at the end and looked over to see him throwing rocks into the empty ditch. I snuck over and started snapping a few photos. How lucky that he gave me the sweetest little smiles right there at the end. And to think I was just about to get in my car and drive away.
