If someone you loved found out they had a terminal disease – what would you do? What sort of things would you plan to do with them? I hope this is something I will never have to face but it happens to a lot of people.
My sweet neighbor sent me a text message this spring. I was right in the middle of my crazy busy season and was booking people out two months out. Her message told me her son in law just found out that his cancer had returned and was terminal. They wanted to get some family pictures while he was still feeling pretty good because they had no idea what the next few months would bring. OF COURSE I fit them in ASAP. I had one single Saturday that wasn’t booked for two months that weekend. One. And it was days later. It was a miracle because that was the only day of the week that would work for them.
I’m going to pull from Britton’s “One Day Starts Today” go fund me page. ” Most of you know the devastating news we received last week. For those that don’t, Britton’s cancer has returned and we are out of options for treatment. Britton will receive radiation to reduce the current spot at T4 on his spine. This will only relieve the pain for now and we have no way of knowing when the next spot will appear.
Without a treatment for cure our only hope is to hold back the cancer as long as possible. Ewing’s Sarcoma is fierce and with the strongest drugs available the Drs have only been able to keep it away for a year at best.”
Britton and his wife Kenzi have been doing their best to check off everything they can off their bucket list. They want to be able to enjoy as many things together as they can. They have been on trips, vacations, concerts and many other fun things together. If you would like to donate to their go fund me to help them check off as many things on their bucket list as they can click HERE.
These type of sessions always make me so nervous. Pictures like these are priceless and treasured and I wanted to give them the best photos possible. When I was driving to their session the song “You Should be Here” came on the radio and I cried! I don’t usually get nervous before photo sessions anymore but sessions like this one make me so nervous! I want to do the best job possible for them.
I’ve had something on my mind for about a year now. I couldn’t shake it so I finally had to do something about it. I’ve done sessions like this one a few times and every time I leave humbled to be able to serve a family in this way. I have a friend who works with the Cache Valley for Hope Foundation that helps families dealing with cancer. It’s an AMAZING organizing and have helped many friends of mine going through cancer. I messaged her and said that I wanted to be able to help families who are about to loose a loved one. I wanted to gift them a photo session. She told me a few stories of families that only had a few cell phone photos of their loved one with them before they died. CELL PHONE PHOTOS. Or of a little girl who only has a few photos of her dad, mom and her because she was only 2 when he died. They were all she had of him.
I didn’t know if I could handle this alone and I didn’t want anyone to be turned away. So I put the word out to some local photographers and the response was AMAZING. Pretty much every top photographer in Cache Valley reached out to me wanting to help. They would gift families with children with cancer and family members with terminal cancer free photo sessions. I even had a few hair and make up artist volunteer their time to help people as well. I just cried. It was so amazing. We live in such a wonderful area!
Please keep Britton and Kenzi in your thoughts and prayers.

Hi I am a CVFH family member. I have been fighting stage four metastatic melanoma. Right now I am not doing treatment. I do have a tumor on my spine that they are watching. Since having brain surgery twice as recent as December 29 I don’t have a ton of hair but I have. I would love to have some pictures with my husband and two boys. You are amazing for donating you time. Thank you. I am not terminal so it could be at your less busy time.
